There has been a church on this site for about 1000 years.

It is mentioned in the Doomsday Book (Stutton was called Scottuna) and the discovery of an early consecration cross, slit window and runic stone during extensive alterations in the 19th century would seem to confirm this.

However, the present nave dates from the middle of the 14th century.
