Stutton Ringers were formed in 1996 from a group of people with no previous ringing experience. They were helped to get started by the band at Holbrook church and then by David Salter, Ringing Master of the Suffolk Guild of Ringers and his wife, Katherine. David and Katherine continued to instruct for several years. The tower is a member of the Suffolk Guild and all our ringers are individual members.
The band now has twelve members, many of whom were in the founding group. Two experienced ringers have joined.
The band rings regularly for Sunday service at Stutton. Practices are held on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 pm.
Several members have rung peals and quarter-peals. On 4th July, 1999, a peal of 5040 changes of Plain Bob Doubles was rung at Stutton to mark the retirement of Canon Tony Jones as Rector of Stutton. The peal band included three members of Stutton Ringers and three visitors. A peal board has been erected in the ringing chamber to mark the occasion.
On Monday 2nd July, 2007, a peal of 5040 changes in four methods (St Clements, Cambridge Surprise, Plain Bob and Norwich Surprise) was rung by a visiting band, to celebrate the Installation of Revd Geoffrey Clement as Rector.
Sandra Pereira was Secretary of the Suffolk Guild of Ringers and Eric Bull was Treasurer from 1999 to 2005.
