Paul's parents worked in the Royal Hospital School and he went to Stutton School for two years before going on to Felixstowe Grammar.  He met Ruth in Leeds when training to be a doctor.  They married in 1982, living first in Cattsfield and now in Grove Cottage.  Paul recently retired as consultant at Barts.  Ruth is a senior academic at the Eastman Dental Institute.

Paul was in the church choir in the early 1960's.  We are now both members of St Peter's PCC.  Paul is Lay Vice Chairman and Ruth is Secretary.  Paul is a Lay Elder at Stutton and also Parish Clerk of St Bartholomew the Less in London.

Paul was first Chairman of the Friends of St Peter's.  In 2000, he organised the Open Gardens Scheme for the Suffolk Historic Churches Trust, including seven gardens in Stutton opened in aid of the scheme.
