Both Lancastrians, Carl and I arrived here with our elder son, Ian, in September, 1958. The experience of Carl's teaching at the Royal Hospital School was intended to last for a few years. But things changed: Our younger son, Neil, was born here in 1959; my parents, Mr and Mrs John Bromley, moved here in 1965 and now my grandson, Oliver, makes the fourth generation to live on the Shotley Peninsula.
I spent twenty-five happy years teaching at Holbrook Primary School, many of them as Deputy Head. Almost accidentally, my whole life has been bound up in Suffolk.
