Lambeth Conference
2008 Bishop Nigel’s
reflections Those
who have been logging on to the diocesan website will have seen the
postcards from the conference, which have been intended as our window on
what was going on there. Bishop
Nigel’s last ‘postcard’ -
no 5 - is now on the diocesan website – www.stedmundsbury.anglican.org
- you will find it on the first page.
You read about the indabas in the press, now read what it felt like
to be part of one. It makes one reel at the thought of the amount of
sheer hard work that had to go in to recording what had been said, and
producing reports which reflected all the views. One
(anonymous) bishop from a far away country told Bishop Nigel how impressed
he had been by the fact that Archbishop Rowan had greeted him by name when
they met. One
thing which comes through is the fact that meeting each other in person,
instead of hollering at each other from the rooftops was what had made the
difference. It reminds us that even in these days of cyber communication,
there is no substitute for old-fashioned Christian fellowship and sharing.
If you want to look at the final communiqué from the conference you will find it here: http://www.lambethconference.org/daily/index.cfm Barbara Bilston July 30th 2008 |
