Welcome to St. Matthew's

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to St. Matthew's Church. We do hope that you will feel welcome here and able to join with us in regular worship.

How are we distinctive?

  • First, there is a great diversity at St. Matthew's - in both traditions and styles of worship, and the ages, background and experience of the people here. It really is a place where everyone can find a home.
  • Second, it is a good place to grow spiritually, to get to know Jesus more. You may have been a Christian for 70 years, or have wondered about Christianity for seven minutes, but we are all on a pilgrimage and can grow in Christ if we are willing. Our greatest desire here is to help each other along this path.
  • Finally, this is church where all can discover and develop their own gifts and strengths. Everyone can have a role to play and we try hard to help each person find just the right place for them. And we try to support each other through the pastoral care arrangements that you will find listed on a separate page, so hopefully no one will feel isolated or remain in need.

St. Matthew's Church viewed from Civic Drive, Ipswich
St. Matthew's is a large town centre church, which gathers its congregation from all over Ipswich and beyond. As an Anglican church we have special responsibility for our parish area.

The Fletcher Centre, across the road from St. Matthew's, is our Church Centre. It contains the Church Office and rooms, as well as housing Counselling and Pregnancy Advice Centres.

Our church plant, Triangle Church, meets in the Triangle Community Centre in Dickens Road. With the help of a shop called Living Water (opposite the Community Centre), it seeks to reach out to those who live in that part of the parish.

In October 2006 the parish was joined with the parish of All Saints and the the three churches are currently growing ever closer together.
