Groups at St Matthew’s

As well as homegroups, there are a whole host of other groups at St. Matthew's which we can be involved in, from social groups to those providing a service.

For those who are aged 18 or over there is the Fridaze who meet on a Friday evening.

For all parish pensioners we have a Seniors Group who meet every Monday afternoon.

For anyone who can play an instrument or sing, there is the Music Team who provide a suitable accompaniment to the congregation's worship.

For those interested in campanology, there are the Bellringers who practise monthly on Friday evenings.

For those who want to be involved in providing a service for the church, there are the Servers and the Flower Rota .

At St. Matthew's we have a Ministry Team of trained people who are prepared to pray with those who request it.

Servers

As servers we can often be seen during services wearing our blue robes. Our role is to prepare the altar area for communion, and to aid the smooth running of services. Teams of servers are on duty most Sundays, and occasionally during the week. This is organised according to a rota system.

We are a small, happy, caring and supportive group of people of varying ages and both sexes who share a desire to serve God in this special way. We are always very pleased to welcome new members and careful training is given so that no-one is 'thrown in at the deep end'!

Flower Rota

We have no catchy name for this area of work, just a rota of willing volunteers. There are always flowers in church in the church at the high altar, in St. Katherine's chapel and at the west door. For the festivals of Christmas, Easter, St. Matthew's day and Harvest there are also flowers on the pillars in the nave and on each of the windowsills.

The group works on a rota of fortnightly duties and has around thirty members. Each person buys their own flowers and brings the foliage to go with them, although help and support are readily available if needed.

Joining the flower rota can be a good way to meet people as we do our work in small groups in church. It can be hard work, but we do our best through the flowers to bring beauty and a glimpse of God at work in our lives.

Ministry Teams

As a church we believe in God acting in the lives of his people. At St. Matthew's we have a team of trained people who are ready to pray with people after every main Sunday service as well as by appointment during the week. People come forward for prayer on a wide variety of subjects ranging from illness to employment and relationship problems. There are many occasions when God has answered prayer, such as Jenny Mitchell's experiences .

When it is necessary to follow a longer course of ministry people may be recommended to make an appointment with  Inspire.
