At St. Matthew's we have many different groups and activities. We run homegroups, which aim to bring people together to study the Bible, pray and support one another. There are also many other groups and we would very much encourage you to join one as a good way of getting to know others within the church.
If you are interested in finding out more about what Christians believe, we would strongly recommend the Alpha Course. This is a ten week course providing a basic introduction to the Christian faith. Each week begins with a meal and is followed by a talk and the opportunity for discussion.

Our aim at St. Matthew's is to take seriously the task of "making mature followers of the living God". We seek to know Jesus Christ better ourselves, as well as making him know to those who live in our town and parish. My hope is that you will feel able to join us in this task.

The life and ministry of the church continues to flourish under the lordship of Jesus Christ, partly as so many people are involved in a wide variety of public and private

Vision and Values

at St Matthew’s

"We seek to know Jesus Christ better, and to make him known"

"Committed together to make mature followers of the living God"

Our values

  • We value the rich diversity of culture, tradition and spirituality in the church.
  • We value a shared dependency on prayer, the Word of God and his Holy Spirit to direct and sustain our life together.
  • We value the variety of worship, which seeks to be both real and relevant to the needs of those who come.
  • We value being members of a community of God's people committed to each other, especially as part of a small group.
  • We value the gifts God has given us, and the opportunity to use them both within and outside the church.
  • We value the links with the school and parish communities.
  • We value a deeper concern for effective evangelism and outreach.
  • We value a hunger for greater spiritual maturity.
  • We value our membership of the wider church community both locally and world-wide.
