The Church and ParishSt John's ParishThe Parish of St. John's extends from the Ipswich to Felixstowe railway line in the West to Britannia Road in the East and from Colchester Road in the North to Foxhall Road in the South. Our main Sunday morning service is attended by about 300 adults and children. There are about 200 people on the Parish Electoral Roll. There are strong links with St. John's Primary School in Victory Road. The Church BuildingThe first church on this site was opened in 1857. As the congregation grew a larger building was constructed. This church, the building we still use today, was completed in 1899. The original church was then used, until recently, as the church hall. The Church Extension ProjectAs the condition of our church halls deteriorated, and the space proved increasingly unsuitable for our needs, we felt God calling us to expand and establish new church "hall" facilities. The St. John's Church Extension Project traces its roots back to the 1980's. Various options were explored and several innovative money-raising schemes were tried. Eventually, in June 1997 the first bulldozers moved onto what was the Vicarage Lawn and the new church complex rapidly began to take shape. We were pleased to open the new facilities at the beginning of September 1998 and can only marvel at the way God has provided for the community and the way that the funds (in excess of £600,000) have been raised. The Church Complex
The church complex is heavily used for Sunday morning groups, Noah's Ark Playgroup and a variety of daytime and evening midweek activities as covered elsewhere on this site. Car Park / Play Area2001 saw the completion of the building project with the demolition of the original church building and hall. The site is now used as an all-weather play area that doubles as a car park on Sundays and for other major services. This facility is well used by the youth clubs and other groups.
In Christ the whole building is joined together and rises to
