The
Cathedral church of St James and St Edmund, Bury St Edmunds
celebrated its 500th anniversary recently.
When
the Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich was created in
1914, the Church of St James was designated as the Cathedral.
It is adjacent to the ruins of the former great Abbey of
St Edmund and was a focus of national and European pilgrimage
and the cradle of Magna Carta.
The
Cathedral not only serves the community of faith, but supports
a county wide role, by hosting civic and county services
and anniversary services for voluntary organisations of
all kinds, as well as concerts, exhibitions and conferences.
