Prayers

O Splendour of God’s glory bright,
Who bringest forth the light from Light;
O Light, of light the fountain-spring;
O Day, our days illumining;

Come very Sun of truth and love,
Come in thy radiance from above,
And shed thy Holy Spirit’s ray,
On all we think and do today.

Teach us to work with all our might;
Put Satan’s fierce assaults to flight;
Turn all to good that seems most ill;
Help us our calling to fulfil.

O joyful be the livelong day,
Our thoughts be pure as morning ray,
Our faith like noonday’s glowing height,
Our souls undimmed by shades of night.
St. Ambrose c.340-397
Tr.Compilers of Hymns Ancient and Modern 1904

Eternal light, shine into our hearts,
eternal goodness, deliver us from evil,
eternal power, be our support,
eternal wisdom, scatter the darkness of our ignorance,

eternal pity, have mercy upon us;
that with all our heart and mind and soul and strength
we may seek your face and be brought by your infinite mercy
to your holy presence,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Alcuin of York (804)

O Lord our God,
grant us grace to desire you with our whole heart;
that so desiring, we may seek and find you;
and so finding, may love you
and so loving, may hate those sins
from which you have delivered us;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Anselm (1109)

Sing the Song of Life
When the seed of hope is growing,
sing, sing the song of life.
When the Spirit wind is blowing
sing, sing the song of life.
When the air and sea get clean,
when the drought of land turns green,
when the weak are loved and seen,
sing, sing the song of life.
When the word of truth is spoken,
sing, sing the song of life.
When the bread of life is broken,
sing, sing the song of life.
When the goodness is revealed,
when the covenant is sealed,
when the broken life is healed,
sing, sing the song of life.

When the light shines in the darkness,
sing, sing the song of life.
When the heart grows in the heartless,

sing, sing the song of life.
When I see the You in me
when the 'I' becomes a 'we',
when creation is set free
sing, sing the song of life.

When the hurting finds compassion,
sing, sing the song of life.
where the heart may make confession,
sing, sing the song of life.
When the lost is found and prized,
when our dreams are realized,
when God's will is visualized
sing, sing the song of life.

Into hate and into dying
sing, sing the song of life.
Into suffering and crying
sing, sing the song of life
.Into mistrust, doubt, despair
breath God's healing, love and care.
Grace is given grace to share,
sing, sing the song of life.
Per Harling

Jesus, may all that is you flow into me.
May your body and blood be my food and drink.
May your passion and death be my strength and life.
Jesus, with you by my side, enough has been given.
May the shelter I seek be the shadow of your cross.
Let me not run from the love which you offer,
But hold me safe from the forces of evil.
On each of my dyings shed your light and your love.
Keep calling to me until that day comes,
When, with your saints, I may praise you for ever.
Amen.
Igantius of Loyola

Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding and my entire will - all that I have and call my own. You have given it all to me. To you, Lord, I return it. Everything is yours, do with it as you will. Give me only your love and your grace. That is enough for me.
Ignatius of Loyola

Forgive us father where, in our personal lives, we have chosen conflict before harmony and added to the features which distort our world. We commend to you the busy-ness, the relationships, the responsibilities, the choices of this day. When principle demands us to stand against the tide of opinion, give us strength; when judgements are complex and others lives affected by our choices, inspire us with your wisdom and when faith asks us to lift our eyes to another world, may this one benefit from the vision
