15 Ideas and Suggestions
Here are some great ideas and suggestions to make Open Churches Week a great success.

1. Put a board outside your church saying that you are open and a visitors book available so that people can leave comments.

2. Every church should be open that week during day light hours. Those who are normally key-holders to open the church between the hours of 10-4pm and possibly for two evenings between 6 and 8pm

3. Those churches that are normally locked please be open for certain hours and let this be known locally.

4 Mount an exhibition of photographs of the parish and its activities or mount an exhibition of the worshipping congregation and some of the services. For example Family services, Easter, Harvest, Christmas.

5. Make special material available. Cards with prayers, these could be purchased from various suppliers, or you could make your own if you have access to a printer and a laminator.

6. Make Bibles available, or at least a Bible for visitors.

7. Music playing quietly, either taped or the organ.

8. Special peal of bells, perhaps the tower could be open in some churches.

9. Have an area where people can just sit and be quiet.

10. If you have copies of records perhaps people might be able to see these, or say where your records are held. Genealogy is very popular at the moment.

11. Contact the people who live in the area and invite them in for a special visit.

12. Serve refreshments if possible.

13. Have members of the congregation on duty to make visitors welcome.

14. Have a few extra pots of flowers around.

15. Put on a concert, art exhibition, an evening of readings. Perhaps a local school could give a concert. It doesn't have to be a big event, but anything that will bring local people into the church building.
