What next
for Year of the Child 2009
“Year
of the Child 2009 has been a great success.” That’s
the conclusion of Helen Woodroffe, our Children’s
Officer and the driving force behind much of what has been
achieved. But Helen also pays tribute to over 1,000 plus
delegates who took the idea, launched in 2008, enthusiastically
into their schools and churches. The ‘Year’
has seen many unique events including the Children’s
Council in March which developed the Diocesan Children’s
Charter; and the highly imaginative Spiritual Child Exhibition
in June, when students from 20 schools produced artwork
which made for a truly unforgettable week long exhibition
in our Cathedral. Children have been challenged with questions
such as, “I wonder how you will shine your light in
the world?” through a travelling ‘Labyrinth’,
which was developed to stimulate reflection about the Bible
and its meaning. The Year of the Child 2009 will be wrapped
up at a conference on 27th February 2010
at Christ Church, Moreton Hall. The day will celebrate all
the inspirational work that the year has generated and ensure
that those committed to children’s work feel encouraged
and supported in their continuing work.
