Diocese of St Edmundsbury & Ipswich
Serving Suffolk's Communities

Priest in Charge Fressfield and Hoxne and Denham
Location

The group lies on the north-east edge of Suffolk in the gently rolling countryside of the Waveney Valley. This is an area of rural charm where communities cherish their history but are alive to the realities of today. It is close to the market towns of Diss, Harleston
and Halesworth; just 45minutes from the east coast (Southwold, Walberswick and Dunwich); and mid-way between the county towns of Norwich and Ipswich. Diss is on the Norwich to London main railway line. Just a great place to live!

Schools
Three primary schools are sited within the group – all highly regarded as are nearby secondary schools. Transport is available for taking pupils from the villages to and from school.

The Churches
Services are held regularly in all seven of the parish churches – many with the constructive and trained help of lay elders who play an important role in maintaining patterns of worship and pastoral care. The buildings are all medieval – most in a reasonable state of repair; some with interesting developments and planned improvements; some warmer than others!

Church Tradition
Churchmanship is broad based ranging from evangelical to moderately high. There are no extremes. Emphasis is put on a warm welcome at the church door and the need for flexibility to meet the life styles of modern families. There are examples of fresh
expressions of worship in a number of the parishes. Some excel at innovative services, and events to welcome newcomers. At Easter ranges from a Family Hot Cross Bun Service (we expect over 50-80), to a meditation at the Cross.

The Ministry
The group benefits greatly from two Ordained Local Ministers and 25 Lay Elders. Children’s ministry includes Sunday School, Assemblies and Table Talk – a regular session of ‘craft and cakes’ followed by a Bible story. There is ministry with all age
groups across the seven parishes, including two care homes.

The House
The group house - modern with four bedrooms - is presently situated at Metfield although consideration is being given to a more convenient location.

New incumbent
We would welcome someone who:

Feels called to join us and can offer spiritual vision and bring energy, enthusiasm and encouragement to these seven parishes. People skills are essential; management skills would be an advantage.

Will uphold the integrity of the word of God, and is open to the inspiration and ministry of the Holy Spirit.
Has the ability to inspire new growth from old and continue to develop fresh expressions of worship, while being prayerfully committed to thoughtful biblical teaching and preaching.
Has the ability to communicate sensitively with all age ranges and who is approachable and would enjoy working collaboratively, with a pastoral heart for nurturing faith and bringing new initiatives.
Has the experience to recognise, respect and value the God-given gifts and talents of both the lay and ordained members who are presently serving our churches. One who has the confidence to delegate, so that together we can continue to develop and fulfill God's plans and purposes for our parishes.
Has the skill to continue and further the established links and opportunities for ministry within the group’s schools.
Wishes to embrace the joys and privileges of serving among these rural, yet vibrant and growing communities.
