Background
Clergy Terms of Service
is the shorthand term for a package of changes that are being
made to the way that clergy within the CofE are being deployed.
The process was started by a DTI review in 2002 and will come
to fruitition in 2010.
In 2005, the
Church of England committed itself to the aspirations set out
in the Department of Trade and Industry’s statement
of good practice on clergy working conditions. Church of England
clergy benefit de facto from many of the provisions in the statement,
and the Terms of Service legislation will have the effect of bringing
clergy working conditions further inline with these aspirations.
Within the diocese
Canon Graham Hedger is leading on implementation. However, with
such a vast subject many diocesan staff are involved in making
the changes that have to take place between now and 2010.
Clergy Terms
of Service now has its own dedicated website, which can be accessed
here.
