Church
Buildings
Ninety four percent of all of Suffolk's
478 parish churches are listed historic buildings and their
care and maintainence is one of our greatest challenges.
The
Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC) based at the St Nicholas
Centre, helps parishes to maintain, beautify and successfully
adapt Suffolk's churches.
The
DAC offers advice on: The granting of faculties; The architecture,
archaeology, art and history of churches; The use and care
of churches, their contents and their churchyards.
It has
many advisers able to visit churches to offer their expertise.
These advisers cover a wide range of subjects including
archaeology, bells, heating, liturgical re-ordering and
organs. The DAC Secretary is willing to organise site visits
with relevant members of the DAC and Heritage Partners (e.g.
English Heritage, SPAB, Victorian Society) to discuss a
PCC's plans.
Please
contact the DAC Secretary, Mr James Halsall for more information
at the Diocesan Office, St Nicholas Centre, 4 Cutler Street,
Ipswich, IP1 1UQ. 01473 298533.
