Earl Soham Baptist Church - who are we?

Gill Lee

This month features Rev Gill Lee, our new Minister who will start in November 2006, and we believe will be the first woman Baptist Minister in Suffolk. She says she is thrilled to be coming! We’re also excited.

Graham Lee

Like many in our church, her spiritual journey was not straightforward. Following a fairly turbulent adolescence she married Graham, then living in Surrey. A disastrous foray into spiritualism cost them their home, business and health, but on moving to Boxford, they met Christians—who led them to Christ, and to healing and restoration. Gill’s career has included Administrator at Sible Hedingham Baptist Church and RE Teacher at Ely School, but in 1990 she felt God calling her to pastoral ministry so she studied full-time for a London University BD at Romsey House in Cambridge, followed by MPhil in theology at Cambridge University and a Pastoral Diploma at Spurgeon’s College.

She was then student pastor at Merton Park Baptist Church for two years and for the past eight years has been Minister of Northumberland Heath Baptist Church in SE London.  Graham until recently was a Special Needs teacher working with children with severe emotional and behavioural problems. Two of their adult children are missionaries in Paraguay. Their younger daughter in Halstead, Essex has a daughter (2 years old) with cerebral palsy. Gill and Graham try to visit every week, which is one reason why they’re keen to live in East Anglia. Graham now intends to make and sell toys for children with similar disabilities, but hopes also to meet lots of people in Earl Soham!

Gill is an armchair football fanatic but sadly (for us) is a lifelong Chelsea supporter. She also loves books and has an unrequited passion for writing. She is currently involved in a local ecumenical group and is actively involved in extending the church’s role in serving the community.
