What is in a word?
The four Sundays during April are described in the church calendar of Common Worship as ‘of’ Easter. In past times these Sundays were described as ‘after’ Easter. So what difference might the change of one word mean? We are encouraged and guided now to remain with our thoughts and direction by the dramatic events of the Easter story – the hope and good news resulting from the Resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Last month Clare and I facilitated two Creative Lent Sessions that produced some amazing results. The visible creative outcomes were diverse and exciting, but the invisible creative journey that people described, as they had ‘made’ their piece were to me much more exciting and of far greater worth. Why? Because they spoke from their heart of thoughts experienced related to their process of ‘dwelling’ ‘in Christ’.
Some memorable comments made by participants were these:
“It was really helpful to read the available resources in advance which started me thinking”.
“Although I had an idea at the beginning, it has developed and changed”.
“This time has been really special. Thank you.”
“Creative artwork is dynamic, living; because during the process of working out one’s idea further insights may be incorporated.”
In other words it is ‘of us’; a living reality and expression of our experience. The meaning of our outward creative expression is personal and thereby sincere and memorable. We have felt the experience, known the reasoning for change from within and been willing participants of making that change.
This same experience can happen however, anytime one chooses to ‘dwell’ in the Word of God and the consequences may effect positive change in any area of our lives.
‘ Dwelling’ in the presence of God and interpreting the mystery of the risen Christ are held within the bible texts of the next four weeks. I invite you to read these privately to let them rumble in your daily thoughts, before hearing them again in public worship. Since when listening with an open receptive heart the Holy Spirit emphasizes different words or elements of the scriptures to each individual as they are heard. These are signs, promptings, and guidance givenby God, of God, a living God.
May God bless you,
Wendy
