A Time To Reflect & Grow
The Parish of St Thomas of Canterbury ( Woodbridge) and St. Clare’s (Framlingham) R.C. Church has set aside a week in October to hold a Mission. The purpose of the Mission week is threefold:
- To help the individual grow
- To help the community grow
- To enable the community to reach out to others in the area.
Each evening there will be a special service held at St Thomas’s, Woodbridge starting at 7.30pm and you are warmly invited to come. The themes to be addressed are:
Monday 18th October |
Healing |
Tuesday 19th October |
Prayer – spiritual growth and commitment |
Wednesday 20th October |
Family |
Thursday 21st October |
Eucharist |
Friday 22nd October |
Discipleship |
Invitations are being made to Christian groups in the area to ask you to support the Mission week. You can do this by:
- attending some of the services,
- telling others in your area about it
- by praying for it’s success in reaching out in “faith friendship” to others.
The week will be a special time for people to consider their own relationship with God and to think about ways in getting closer to God. We do hope you will be able to come.
Crib Exhibition
Advanced Notice - all things being equal the now annual Crib Exhibition will take place from the 26th November for 5 days at St. Mary’s Woodbridge. It is planned that our Sunday Eucharist will take place at St. Mary’s Woodbridge, joining in with their service. It will be an opportunity to see new cribs as well as visit old favourites. Mark the dates in your diary now. An event not to be missed. More details nearer the time.

Can you Help?
Are you looking for a new direction and for something worthwhile that you can channel all that parenting experience into? If the answer is yes then you could be just the sort of person Home-Start Suffolk Coastal is looking for to join its very friendly team of volunteers. As a volunteer you would be matched with a family with young children needing support and you would spend a morning or afternoon a week bringing an extra pair of hands, a listening ear and maybe help with transport.
For a family feeling lonely and overwhelmed, your caring presence could make all the difference. It could help mum and/or dad and the children regain enjoyment in being a family and help them to know that bringing up children is a challenge for everyone, not just for them. Our next preparation course for volunteers begins in late September so if you are interested and would like to know more please ‘phone Home-Start Suffolk Coastal on 01394 389402.
Brundish Training Centre - Computer tip: October 2004
Outlook Express – set up the layout so that it suits you
Last month’s Computer Tip was about sorting your emails in Outlook Express. This month we look at your Outlook Express settings so that the layout suits your way of working.
Open Outlook Express and click on View > Layout. The dialogue box which appears has a ‘Basic’ section at the top and a ‘Preview Pane’ section beneath.
In the ‘Basic’ section, try ticking (or unticking) the Toolbar box. This will show (or hide) the toolbar across the top of your screen with buttons for Reply, Forward, Print etc. Click Apply then OK. The changes will be made immediately, so it is quick to experiment. In the ‘Preview Pane’ section, try ticking (or unticking) Show Preview Pane. If ticking it, choose where you want it to appear by selecting Below or Beside.
Everything you do can easily be changed back again by clicking on View > Layout and ticking or unticking the appropriate boxes. Don’t forget to click Apply before OK each time.
If any of this is unclear please do not hesitate to call in at Brundish Village Hall if there is a course running or ring David Holliday on 01728-627174 (answerphone) or mobile 07765-345541.

Earl Soham Parish Plan
If you can remember way back to last autumn at an open meeting organised by the Parish Council a presentation was given by Annette Gray of Suffolk Acre (Action with Communities in Rural England) on Parish plans and what a useful tool they can become in the development of towns and villages as well as communicating our thoughts with evidence to those that formulate policies. After the presentation a vote was taken in favour of producing a Parish Plan, and within a few weeks a steering group was formed and an application for funding was processed. Well after months of negotiations and two further budgets submitted, things are at last moving and that in principle a grant from the Countryside Agency has been agreed, subject to finalizing of printing costs.
The object of the plan is to consult with all parishioners on a wide range of subjects about the village from Environmental, Planning, Social and Pleasure, Highways, Housing, Health, Communication and Parish Council and the means of this consultation will be via a multi question questionnaire with a supplement for young people (11/18 years old) which will be delivered to every household within the parish. On an agreed date with the household, it will be collected by a member of the steering group who will carry identity badge and who will hand over a plain envelope for you to put the questionnaire in and seal it before handing it back. This is to ensure your anonymity, also if for some reason you don’t want other members of the household to know your views then please ask for an additional questionnaire.
We are aiming to complete, deliver and collect the questionnaires in November/December, and after analysing the findings a report will be produced on our findings and will be available to all parishioners. We will also hold a drop-in day at the village hall to show and talk through the findings, after which an action plan will be formulated, then discussed between Parish Council and steering group to prioritise the problems, what action is required, who is going to lead the action, who else should be involved, how is it going to be funded and also the Parish Council will review/monitor the action plan two or three times year and give a report to the Annual Parish Meeting.Steering Group Members are Trevor Castle, Sue Rutherford, Mike Carter, Richard Tinkler, Chris Lock, Bruce Hinton, John Elmore, Daphne Dale, Stephen Wood, John Tomlinson.
