Children’s Church at Earl Soham
We were delighted to have the opportunity at Children’s Church this month to give praise for the Harvest with songs, activities and prayers. Our children, aged between 18 months and 12 years old, enjoyed working together to find produce to match the letters HARVEST. We all struggled with the letter V but a “Variety of Vegetables!” was cleverly suggested by one of the children. We also shared a variety of breads from around the world as we shared in The Peace together.
There is a strong sense of community and fellowship as we come together on the 4th Sunday of each month at 9.30 a.m. to worship in a lively, child-centred and fairly informal manner and we warmly welcome any others to join us – you don’t have to have children to take part, we aim to provide a service which could equally appeal to all ages.
If you would like to find out more, then please just come along or telephone me, Jo Reed, on 01728 685794 for more information.
Friends of St Peter’s Cretingham
On Thursday 15th September a delightful evening visit was made to FRAMSDEN MILL courtesy of John Ablett. Despite appalling weather (so unusual for Friends’ events), 17 people braved the elements and enjoyed a fascinating insight to the history of the mill and the various bygones and artefacts collected over the years. The evening raised £130 and grateful thanks go to John. We will, no doubt, return!
On Saturday 8th October, ‘The Cretingham Murder Inquest’ was performed by pupils and staff of Woodbridge School under the direction of Mark Mitchels. Over 90 people attended this presentation to hear how the REVD William Meymott Farley was allegedly murdered by his younger curate Arthur Edward Gilbert-Cooper. Being able to present this drama in the church, where both parties had preached, added an air of mystery to the whole proceedings. Thanks go to Mark Mitchels, the performers, Stephen Cole, the Headmaster of Woodbridge School for his support, Eric and Carol Brown who were instrumental in the organisation, and all those who attended the event which raised over £650.
The auction of the London 5 star hotel week-end, commenced at the Charity Golf Club event (14th July) was successfully concluded at the ‘Murder’ and a further £225 was raised towards the Friends’ funds.
A final reminder about the AGM - 7.00 p.m. on November 8th in the Church. All are welcome.

Suffolk ACRE Training and Employment Opportunities
- Do you feel left behind by the world of work, are aged 50 plus and don’t feel confident enough to try to get back?
- Are you over 24 and feel that you lack the skills and experience to get that job you want?
- Do you feel you need help to get a career?
If you have answered yes to any these questions, one of the three schemes Suffolk ACRE are coordinating could help you. These schemes all provide free training and support and aim to improve people’s employment prospects by targeting different social groups. The “Vigour!” scheme supports the 50 plus age group who are not in paid employment, “Social Economy Horizons”, people who are over 24 who are either unemployed or working/volunteering within the voluntary sector and “Get it On”, the black and ethnic minority community.
Building on peoples existing life experiences and skills a free package of support is made available to meet the individual needs of those participating, to give them the chance to gain experience and build confidence within a supportive environment. This package could include access to Information Advice and Guidance, the chance to gain appropriate employability and vocational skills or opportunities of accredited training courses. Practical experiences, such as taster sessions or work placements are also available to help those on the scheme develop skills in a genuine work environment.
Don’t feel left out, act now.

Suffolk Historic Churches Trust Sponsored Cycle Ride
A very big thank you to all intrepid riders who braved the elements on that rainy morning of Saturday 10thSeptember to take part in the sponsored cycle ride.
Our thanks must also go to the conscientious recorders in Church and especially to Lyn Tinkler who organised refreshments. Special congratulations are also due to Mary Patterson who raised in the region of £300.
It is hoped that approximately £400 will be raised, thanks to the generousity of our sponsors.

Earl Soham WI
The WI enjoyed a talk by Neville Stein at the September meeting , about the management of his luxury Belgian Chocolate shops in Woodbridge and Ipswich, and the production of chocolate in general. Who knew that chocolate was first brought to Europe by Columbus? Some members went on a coach trip to Hokeham Hall in Norfolk, the ancestral home of the Earls of Leicester, and admired the beautifully proportioned 18th century house filled with treasures of classical art and sculpture, as well as the fascinating farming museum.
The WI meets every fourth Thursday at 7.30 pm in the village hall for the main monthly meeting, and also holds splinter groups for bridge, books, walking, sewing and scrabble. Newcomers to the area are always welcomed.

Fresh from an amazing holiday in Peru, I must tell you that the autumn/Christmas Traidcraft catalogue has a number of Peruvian products from a ceramic nativity set, a painted glass tray, and black onyx jewellery, to alpaca knitted teddies, scarves and sweaters. And of course, there is Cafedirect's organic medium roast ground coffee, branded Machu Picchu, which will be served and on sale. The crafts are generally too expensive for me to stock but I can place an order for anyone interested. By purchasing products made from coloured alpaca yarn you will be helping to prevent the extinction of these llamas, as well as ensuring fair wages and a better standard of living for the craftspeople. Visit www.traidcraftshop.co.uk for the range of goods available.
