Cretingham Village Committee...

...will be holding an Auction of Promises before our annual Bar-B-Que on June 26th. We would be very grateful of any offers of promises or items to auction at this event.  A board will be in the Village Shop and we would like all offers to be submitted by the end of May to enable a catalogue to be printed.

Some suggestions for promises: flower arrangements, cake, hair do, meal, work in a garden, car cleaning, dog walking etc.

Earl Soham Annual Parish Meeting

The Annual Parish Meeting will take place on 20th April 2004.

We will principally be discussing and seeking approval for the new Earl Soham Community Hall.

As this exciting £1 million project has the potential to bring important change as well as major benefit to the whole of our community the thoughts, views and agreement of everyone in the Village are vital to this project becoming a reality.

So please join us on 20th April. We guarantee a fascinating evening.

Brundish Training Centre - Computer courses and Shop

Brundish Training Centre (in Brundish Village Hall) has been providing computer training for Suffolk Online users since February 2002. Having now successfully completed over 2,000 training sessions during the project, we are able to extend our training to ALL computer users, wherever you live. We have 10 computers so that you have the use of your own machine. We have professionally-qualified tutors who take you through the course at YOUR pace. There are no tests or exams to sit and the style is friendly and warm (we have oil-fired central heating!). Refreshments are provided on arrival and halfway through each two-hour session so you will not feel under pressure. You can purchase ink cartridges (e.g. £4.00 black, £7.00 colour for Epson C20 printers), floppy disks, CDs, photo paper, labels and other supplies at low prices when attending courses. Our engineer can repair all makes of computer and fit extra items such as CD-ReWriters and additional memory (RAM) at very competitive prices.

If you see the course you want but you've missed it, please tell me so that I can put your name on the list for the next one - all the courses repeat, again and again. If you want something not shown, again, please tell me, because we probably do it.

Friends of St Peter's Cretingham

The February meeting of the Friends involved much discussion around the likely work cost requirement on the Church Memorials. This major work necessitates seeking considerable funding and at the time of print the Committee is still awaiting a response from the Council for the Care of Churches before any decision can be taken. Watch this space.

Planning for the Open Gardens/Classic Cars event (13/6/04) is well under way but a few more Cretingham area gardens to support the event would be much appreciated. Your garden, like mine, does not have to be at Alan Titchmarsh standard and does not require every weed to be extracted for the day. The gardens are purely a source of interest to people and we are considering a 'design my garden' event on the day!

You may be asked if a classic car or two may be parked in or around your garden for the day. If you can help please contact Susanne Bache on 01728 685 388. There will be live music - jazz, swing and much more!

The much awaited Sutton Hoo Lecture takes place on Monday April 26th at St Peter's Church. Dr Sam Newton will commence his talk at 7pm. A glass of wine is included in the £6.00 ticket fee and these can be obtained from Margaret Williams at Cretingham Post Office (tel. 01728 685 322) or Treasurer Robert Hadley (tel. 01728 685 501) Hope to see a very good turnout for this interesting subject.
