Interregnum
Our Benefice is in Interregnum from 17th July.
When a vicar leaves a parish (or a Benefice), the parish enters an interregnum. During that time, when there is no vicar, the responsibility for the welfare of the parish falls to the Rural Dean (the Rev'd Graham Owen, the Rector of Framlingham), together with the Churchwardens. It is their responsibility to ensure that services are covered, and baptisms, weddings and funerals are looked after. All three of our parishes enter into interregnum when Clare leaves on July 17th.
Prior to leaving Clare arranged cover for the vast majority of our communion services between now and June 2006. Other services, such as Morning and Evening Prayer, will continue to be led by lay people, Churchwardens and Elders and Wendy our Reader, as will our Family Services. There may be one or two minor adjustments to our established pattern of worship, so check here.
It is not known how long the interregnum will last, nor what will be the outcome of the discussion process which has been re-opened to consider how best to organise our parishes and ensure priestly care in this part of Suffolk. The PCCs will be in regular contact with the Rural Dean, and no re-organisation can take place without full consultation with all the parishes involved.
Please support your Church during this time, and those who will be leading worship and taking pastoral care of our people. The Churchwardens will always be your first point of contact for any need or enquiry.
Contact details for Church Wardens & Elders can be found here.
Age Concern Suffolk’s Local Link Scheme
Vacancy for a volunteer in Ashfield and Cretingham
Local Knowledge is invaluable. This is where Age Concern Suffolk’s Local Link scheme is such a benefit to older people in Suffolk.
Local Links act as a contact and information point for senior citizens in their own community, and can refer older people to Age Concern Suffolk for support and advice where it is needed. This scheme has been very successful and there are currently 115 Local Links across the county of Suffolk, but we always welcome new volunteers to this simple yet valuable service.
There is a vacancy in the villages of Ashfield and Cretingham. If you are interested in helping and supporting older residents in your community we would like to hear from you.
For more information, please contact Anne Powell, Local Link Officer, Age Concern Suffolk. Telephone 01473 738984. Email anne.powell@ageconcernsuffolk.org.uk
Friends of St Peter’s Cretingham
The Friends’ visit to the gardens of Helmingham Hall in the company of Moira Coleman, on Sunday 5th June, proved to be as enjoyable as Moira’s April lecture on the subject. A total of 26 people made the practical tour around the knot and rose gardens, the location of Thomas Brereton’s proposed avenue of trees, the extensive walled kitchen gardens and the Mount. Several of the group also had the opportunity to chat to Lady Tollemache in the gardens and the whole enjoyable afternoon occasion was blessed by the rains stopping just prior to the visit!
This will be the final reminder about the Friends’ Charity Golf Day at Cretingham Golf Club on Thursday 14th July. Entrance is £60 per team of two to include golf and lunch. Full details are available from Eric Brown on 01728 685520.
The planned Puddings Evening has been deferred as arrangements are in hand for a surprise event. Watch this space!'

Earl Soham WI
The WI, which meets every fourth Thursday at 7.30 in the village hall, recently enjoyed a talk from ‘Make a Wish’, a charity that aims to make a dream come true for children with life threatening diseases, and another, by Jenny Gibson of Pettaugh, about her life in rural Turkey. Plans are afoot for participation in the Suffolk Show and Harvest Supper, and a coach outing to Holkham Hall is proposed for September. Splinter groups for bridge, books, croquet, walking and scrabble are flourishing. New members, especially anyone who has recently moved to the area, are always made welcome. It’s a great way to meet people and make friends.

The accounts for 2004/05 have been approved by the Parish Council.
Planning permission has been received for a new access at Earl Soham Lodge Bungalow.
The Parish Council requests that “fly posters” are not stuck on the bus shelter. It makes the village appear very untidy.
Members of the public are very welcome at Parish Council Meetings. The dates for the meetings until the end of the year are 4th July, 19th September and 21st November. The meetings are held in the village hall at 7.45 p.m.

Earl Soham Parish Plan Questionnaire Update
The Questionnaire was delivered to 148 homes in the Parish of Earl Soham and to date, we have collected 130 completed ones. If you are one of the households that has not returned the questionnaire it is still not too late and as it can be dropped in to me at Saxtead House.
We have also received 34 Junior Questionnaires to date so a big thank you to you all.
Our next step is to analyse the questionnaires and produce a report.
