Once again, quite a lot to include.
Earl Soham Annual Parish Meeting
The Annual Parish Meeting will take place on 20th April 2004.
We will principally be discussing and seeking approval for the new Earl Soham Community Hall.
As this exciting £1 million project has the potential to bring important change as well as major benefit to the whole of our community the thoughts, views and agreement of everyone in the Village are vital to this project becoming a reality.
So please join us on 20th April. We guarantee a fascinating evening.

Friends of St Peter's Cretingham
Dr Sam Newton’s talk on ‘Sutton Hoo and the Early History of the Deben Valley’ will take place at St Peter’s Church, Cretingham, on 26th April. A warming glass of wine is included in the entrance fee of £6.00. The evening gets underway in the Church at 7pm. and tickets can be ordered via Margaret Williams at the Cretingham Post Office (telephone 01728 685 322) or obtained on the door at the event. This should be a most enlightening talk and it is hoped that there will be considerable village support for this event.
Susanne Bache (telephone 01728 685 388) who is co-ordinating the @Classic Cars and Gardens’ event on Sunday 13th June, is hoping to attract more volunteers to open their garden for a few hours on that day. All it takes is that one call! There is also a chance that you may be invited to have a car with nostalgic memories or of your dreams parked on your drive for a few hours. There will be a jazz swing band playing on the lawn of the Bell during the afternoon.

Jubilee Campaign director to speak at Earl Soham
Do you remember May 16th 1998, when 70,000 people went to Birmingham to link hands in a chain which surrounded the politicians' summit meeting and to symbolise the chain of debt? The Jubilee 2000 Campaign existed to set the poorest people of the world free from those chains that surround them economically, and a bus-load of us from Debenham and Earl Soham joined the event in Birmingham, driven by Neville Jephcote in an Ipswich Bus. The co-founder and leader of that campaign, Ann Pettifor, will be speaking at the joint service on 18th April in St Mary's Church Earl Soham is now director of Jubilee Research at the New Economics Foundation and is concerned with issues of globalisation. She is editor of Real World Economic Outlook and is an excellent speaker.
The Way
On Sunday 21st May at 2.30pm Sea View Productions presents The Way by Murray Watts, starring Andrew Harrison at New Cut Arts, Halesworth. The Way follows the extraordinary journey that two people made on a lonely desert road. They have just witnessed the execution of their best friend. Confused, angry and struggling to come to terms with such a flagrant miscarriage of justice they are joined by a mysterious traveler.

Age Concern Suffolk’s Local Link Scheme
A scheme called Local Link, is spreading throughout Suffolk, but may not have reached your community!
Being a Local Link is relatively simple and can take as little as four hours a year. The main part of this voluntary role is to be a ‘link’ between older people in your community and Age Concern Suffolk. As a Local Link Volunteer you will receive news and information from Age Concern Suffolk and share this with older people within your locality.
Do you know someone in your community who would make a great Local Link Volunteer to support Age Concern Suffolk? Or is it you? If the answer to either is “Yes”, get in touch with us.
For more information about this scheme and how we can link into your community’s support network, please contact Anne Powell,
Local Link Officer Tel: 01473 738984

Parish Magazine – Earl Soham
A big “Thank you” to the residents of Earl Soham who responded positively to the appeal in November’s magazine and generously made donations towards the cost of printing and producing the parish magazine. The amount I have received will certainly defray some of the cost and reduce the overall charge to the funds of the Church. If there are others in the Village who would wish to ensure the magazine continues and as yet have not made a donation, it is not too late to do so and please do. I shall be pleased to accept your contribution no matter how large it may be!
